working on a new oil painting
I need to do a few pieces for the federation show to submit on the 15th of October. So here is the drawing on canvas board of the first image. She is looking between fencing and I am not sure if I will put the upper plank in, so its to sleep to paint another day...The 2nd image will be a still life of a chess game, the third a landscape of the country just west of here.

Quick Study of a white mare
For my last class with the seniors we painted horses. It is the right time of year to be thinking Western. I brought in photos of the horses from the Lauder Ranch and each member chose one to paint, they did brown, blonde and white horses, everyones was different. In just over an hour they all were wonderful paintings. Shows how much their skills have developed. The idea we had for Jane turned out so well I decided to paint it myself.

Paint
Yeah, My paint has finally arrived from the states, Thank you to Jodie who made the arrangements and to my aunt and Uncle- Lil and Lorne for bringing it to Alberta from Alamo. I have started an acrylic and can't wait to try it out. Acrylic is not the medium I like to use but it should make me a more prolific artist being able to paint quicker. It will take some getting used to as I like to blend on the canvas, but we will see what happens....In the meantime here is the horsey bowl I created for the empty Bowls Festival held here on Saturday.

Karin Jurick portrait challenge

This was the latest challenge from Karin Jurick. In early December she sent artists a photo of another participant, I don't know who the lady is but I was pretty excited about doing the challenge and actually completed her in 2 days, then made a few minor adjustments but then I had to repaint it after scrubbing it off. Hmm, Let well enough alone...

"Painting sees no age or gender, and speaks to every language found on earth."- anonymous
"Seniors make up the fastest growing age group in Canada." We must help by encouraging healthy and active lifestyles, to promote mental and physical well-being, to encourage sociability and to engage in an atmosphere of creativity and learning.
An art enrichment program designed to enrich the livelihood of the seniors in our community strives to offer satisfaction. To experience the pleasure of painting, to satisfy their creative spirit , to develop a sense of self appreciation and to find value and accomplishment in their work of art.
Art is possible for all people. Programs are also designed to motivate individuals who have physical challenges associated with aging and the constraints of health issues. Whether it is a hearing disability, Hodgkin’s, dementia or the entire realm of age related suffering, It is therapeutic to every individual who is involved in the art creation process. Persons confined to wheel chairs and other devices will be able to participate in this cognitive approach to learning. Individuals who have had a stroke can introduce the skill of painting to relearn. Painting is a way of expression and freedom. Its rewards go beyond the physical nature of the process. Let us give a program the seniors will benefit from, each in their own way.

Workshop with Doug Swinton

This weekend I attended another workshop. This one was oils with Doug Swinton. I like his strategy - SIMPLIFY. By painting with the biggest brush you have and by finding the correct value the colour is yours to see. I probably will not use this approach to many of my paintings but I do enjoy watching him as he pounds out a big 24 X 30 painting in 45 minutes. I realize I like to watch others paint as much as I like painting!
Here are pictures from the workshop.

Art Workshop in Cochrane, Alberta

Well I attended the workshop with Marilyn Kinsella Watercolourist She sure has become proficient with her skills. I must say I was impressed with the way she moved the colour onto the paper and could delicately conjure up the rocky mountains with out even using a photo. She said - I have painted them thousands of times from every angle. And she was so very good. Here is a simple painting I worked on.

Jellybeans

Jellybeans in a candydish, This was my own challenge and I had alot of fun with it. Just arranging the jellybean colours was interesting and time consuming. You can attempt to do this too the picture to chose is in the RockyviewArtclub.piczo website - under demos. My particular picture is not posted but I am tempted to do another one.
